“According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” - 1 Peter 1:3b

Introduction

Hope is not the absence of hardship - it is God’s answer to it. Around the world, many live in the shadows of injustice, poverty, and spiritual emptiness. Yet into every darkness, Christ brings a living hope that cannot be overcome. His birth in Bethlehem is the dawning of hope for every generation. As His people, we carry that hope into hearts and homes today, shining His light where it is needed most.

Story

Kasama, Zambia is home to many street children from broken families, where they do not receive love or care. Orphans are common in the area and are shuffled between relatives, never really knowing if they will stay for long in one place. Seeing the great need, OM Zambia’s Project Hope team had a vision to build a shelter for vulnerable children. “We want to have a place where these children can be children. …A place to call home that brings hope,” explained an OM team member. Besides bringing hope to vulnerable children, Home of Hope also brings restoration to whole families. While children receive healing in the Home of Hope, the OM team works to identify potential guardians. Through Bible studies that focus on the topic of ‘family,’ the OM team trains the guardians to be good caregivers.

Activity

Instead of traditional hampers this Christmas, why not invite families, schools, or churches to create “Hope Boxes” filled with practical items (such as food, hygiene kits, small toys, encouragement cards). As you fill each box, you can create a tag saying “Hope is Born” along with a personalised note such as short prayer or a small message to those who would recieve the package.

Each box tells a family, “You are seen. You are valued. You are loved.” In this season where many struggle in silence, these "Hope Boxes" shine the light of Christ into the darkest corners, reminding them that Hope truly is Born.
