Restoring Hope in Cambodia Whenever crises occur around the world, OM workers and church partners are among the first to respond. Immersed in their communities and motivated by the love of Jesus, local believers are ready to bring immediate help and healing in the face of disaster. From providing medical aid to communities devastated by flooding in Pakistan, to distributing food to marginalised people in Zimbabwe, they are powerfully living out the words of Isaiah 61:4 “They will...restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities ...” (NIV) ***** Srey, a mother living in the slums of Cambodia, was extremely sick from poor living conditions and malnutrition. After her husband passed away, Srey was left to support her two young children and niece. Speaking through her sole carer, she shared: “My children were very small ... We worked to collect the rubbish. After that, I got sick. I have high blood pressure and diabetes. I have another illness, too.” The scars of the Khmer Rouge era are still felt deeply across Cambodia. Despite strides in recovery in recent years, the devastating aftermath has left communities grappling with profound challenges including homelessness and financial destitution. For many, each day is a struggle for survival because of limited resources and opportunities. For people like Srey living in the slums, these issues are only made worse when flooding strikes, leading to the spread of disease and illness. In response, OM’s Mercy Teams International (MTI) ministry is providing hygiene relief and improved living standards, as well as sharing the hope of the gospel. Through MTI, Srey received the healthcare and help she needed. Wonderfully, through MTI’s spiritual programme, she started a relationship with Jesus. “I believe in God, so I ... pray for MTI to stay in Cambodia for a long time.” There are thousands of people like Srey who are in need of support. We are raising vital funds to build stable shelters in these communities to protect people from flooding. But we need your help. Will you restore hope by helping people like Srey access the healthcare and support they need? GIVE TO THE MERCY APPEAL 2024 Manage Cookie Preferences
