Restoring Hope in Pakistan Whenever crises occur around the world, OM workers and church partners are among the first to respond. Immersed in their communities and motivated by the love of Jesus, local believers are ready to bring immediate help and healing in the face of disaster. From providing medical aid to communities devastated by flooding in Pakistan, to distributing food to marginalised people in Zimbabwe, they are powerfully living out the words of Isaiah 61:4 “They will...restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities ...” (NIV) ***** Maryam* was carrying her disabled son in her lap. “We had made special shoes for him to enable him to walk,” she said. “But, around midnight, when water overflowed from the bank, I had to snatch him up and run as quickly as I could to higher ground. I had no time to find and pick up his shoes to bring with me. So now my little boy is unable to walk on his own.” The flooding has destroyed homes, property and infrastructure. During our assessments, farmers told us about their loss of crops and livestock. Many people have tragically lost their lives. One man told our team: “Before the flood came, I had been expecting a bumper crop of cotton. Nothing is left now, everything is ruined in my fields.” *name changed OM workers in the area were able to respond immediately by providing medical assistance and practical support. One person said gratefully: “I am delighted in the Lord that He sent you to pour His blessings upon us. I thank God that He provided our daily bread through you.” Despite the efforts of OM teams and partners, the scale of the crisis means that the need is still great. We are raising urgent funds to provide medical aid, hygiene kits, mosquito nets and food packs.
