Easter Sunday is the celebration of Christ's resurrection. At dawn, the tomb was found empty. After being told by an angel to tell Jesus’ disciples that He had risen, the women were then met by Jesus Himself.

New Testament

Matthew 28:2-9

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

Old Testament

Psalm 16:10

…because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

The Alpha and the Omega,

Sovereign Lord from before the earth was formed,

We thank you for the story of redemption from Genesis to Revelation.

You broke the chains of sin and darkness,

conquering death and being raised to life again.

Your resurrection has brought us life,

we praise you for all you have done.

As we celebrate this marvelous act at Easter,

we pray for many new people to join our celebrations.

We ask for you to prompt those in our communities to want to know more.

We ask, Lord, for the Easter message to travel far and wide,

through word of mouth, social media, and literature.

We pray for many in communities without a church

to still be able to hear this life changing message.

Thank you for your love for us.

Amen
