05 - Pashtun, in Pakistan Get to know the Pashtun people in 4 parts - learn, see, act, pray! 1 - Learn The Pashtuns are a big group of people who mostly live in Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are more than 40 million Pashtuns, and they speak a language called Pashto. Pashtuns are known as the largest Muslim tribal group in the world. They have many tribes - more than 30 big ones - and lots of smaller groups called clans, but they all share a strong culture, language, and religion. Almost all Pashtuns are Muslim. Pashtuns do different kinds of work. Many are farmers, some take care of animals or trade goods, and others are soldiers. Pashtun families are very close, and they trace their history through their fathers and grandfathers. These family ties are very important for deciding who gets land or property, but they can also cause disagreements between families or groups. After the British left the region, special areas were made where Pashtuns could live with their own rules. But in the 1990s, these areas became a base for a group called the Taliban. The Taliban got support from some Pashtuns because of shared beliefs and schools they built. Today, Pashtun tribes face challenges. Many of their areas are unsafe because of Taliban violence, their economy is poor, and a lot of illegal drugs like opium are grown there. 2 - See 3 - Act Kahwa (fragrant green tea) Recipe Go To Activity 4 - Pray Pray for the hearts of the Pathan, Afridi, and Khan tribes to be open to the Gospel and for God to prepare the way for next year’s outreach. Pray for divine connections and favor with local communities, leaders, and families within these tribes. Pray for wisdom and strategies for the team as they plan and prepare to work among these tribes. Pray for unity among churches, so they can work together in spreading the Gospel. < Back to PRAY - Christmas 2024 Manage Cookie Preferences
