1 - Learn

The Cavineño are a South American indigenous people cluster and are an endangered tribe that live on the Amazonian plains of northern Bolivia near the Beni and Madidi rivers. There are now considered people who are no longer ‘Unreached’.

They are a small population of around 40 to 140 persons have lived there since the late 1700s, with 600-1200 native speakers worldwide. In the late 1800s, during the rubber boom, many Cavineño people were forced into near slavery by rubber barons. The demand for rubber was so high that it led to extreme exploitation, with many Cavineño being treated unfairly and cruelly. They are a rural people whose primary language is Cavinena, but most also speak Spanish.

Their main source of income is mainly farming, tending livestock, and finding their own sources of wood. The Cavineño people have a Christian community, but it is small.

The tribe’s primary religion is is Animism, a religious worldview that natural physical entities--including animals, plants, and even inanimate objects--possess a spiritual essence. The current need of the tribe is that the people need to put all their hope and faith in Jesus Christ in order to receive abundant life.

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to draw them into exclusive faith in the King of kings.
  • Pray for the Roman Catholic Church in Bolivia to be moved to begin Bible studies and discipleship groups.
