18 - Abkhazians, in Caucasus Get to know the Abkhazian people in 4 parts - learn, see, act, pray! 1 - Learn The Abkhazians live in a beautiful but isolated area called Abkhazia, which is located in the north-western part of Georgia. They live in hidden wooden gorges, surrounded by gardens and fruit trees. Although it might sound like a tough life, it’s actually quite peaceful, and the scenery is beautiful. Abkhazia is bordered by the Black Sea to the south-west, the Caucasus mountains to the north-east, and Russia to the north. In the past, Abkhazia was a popular vacation spot for the Soviet Union’s leaders. The Abkhazians have their own special beliefs that focus on living in harmony with nature. They follow a set of ethical principles called Apsuara, which teaches respect for the environment and a sense of responsibility toward each other. This way of life fits well with their agricultural lifestyle. The Abkhazian economy has traditionally been based on farming and crafts. In the past, crops like maize, millet, and tobacco were important, but after the Revolution, they started growing more tea and citrus fruits. Today, maize and tobacco are still the main crops, but the Abkhazians also raise chickens, farm fish, keep bees, and even make wine. Despite having limited land for farming, with 60 percent of the country covered in forests, the Abkhazians have found ways to use their natural resources wisely, balancing farming, craftsmanship, and their cultural traditions. 2 - See 3 - Act Make an Herb Garden Gardening Go To Activity 4 - Pray Ask God to reveal His truth to them, transforming their hearts and lives, and bringing peace beyond their cultural beliefs.
