Get to know the Muslim Arab people in 4 parts - learn, see, act, pray!

1 - Learn

Often considered the birthplace of civilisations, the Middle East is a region full of rich history. It’s home to the world’s oldest known cities: Damascus (mentioned in Genesis 14:5) and Jericho (mentioned in Joshua 2:1).

Today, the Middle East is a hub of technological innovation and modern architecture. Cities like Dubai in the UAE and Doha in Qatar are rapidly developing, with futuristic projects like artificial islands, grand shopping malls, and towering skyscrapers. In fact, the largest building in the world can be found in Dubai, UAE. The Burj Khalifa measures an impressive 828 meters tall! That’s equivalent to over 135 2-storey houses!

Despite the modern feel of Arabian cities, the souqs (marketplaces) feel like a step back in time. Filled with the fragrance of spices, incense, and the gentle wafting of bakhoors burning, you can hear the chorus of bartering shoppers and market traders. Dotted amongst the stalls are restaurants cooking local cuisine.

With diverse flavours and spices, Arabic cuisine has become popular worldwide with dishes like falafel, hummus, and kebabs.

Most of the Middle East is governed by strict Islam, making it a difficult place for Jesus followers to live out their faith. Local believers not only risk their lives, but also losing their families, friends, jobs, and even spouses and children.

4 - Pray
  • Pray for the freedom of Jesus' followers to live out His purpose in an environment of safety and peace.
  • Ask for God’s protection over those sharing the gospel. May He surround them and their families with His safeguarding presence as they serve.
  • Lift up the government in prayer, asking that God would guide their hearts and bring about eased regulations to support His work.
