10 - Druze and Yazidi, in the Near East Get to know the Druze and Yazidi people in 4 parts - learn, see, act, pray! 1 - Learn The Middle East is home to several different religions, hosting a variety of cultures, traditions and communities. The Yazidi’s and the Druze are just a couple amongst them. The Yazidis The Yazidis believe in a holy figure called Malak Taus, whom they pray to five times a day. Some people wrongly think they worship the devil because Malak Taus is also called "Shaytan," the Arabic word for devil. This misunderstanding has caused a lot of trouble for Yazidis. The worst thing for a Yazidi is to be cast out of their community, as they believe this means their soul can’t continue its journey. Yazidis don’t allow conversion to other religions. In 2014, ISIS targeted Yazidis with terrible violence, forcing many to flee. Today, many Yazidis live in refugee camps or in other countries, working hard to protect their culture and rebuild their lives. The Druze The Druze religion comes from Islam but is very secretive, and only about 20% of Druze are fully initiated into its teachings. They believe in one God, reincarnation, and interpreting religious texts in a spiritual way. Druze communities are very close and tightly organized, mostly living in mountain areas of the Middle East. While the Druze often keep their faith private, some have found new beliefs in Jesus and are quietly sharing their faith with others. 2 - See 3 - Act People Paper Chain (close knit people groups) Craft Go To Activity 4 - Pray Pray for those who are quietly sharing Jesus within their communities, asking God to grant them safety and courage. Pray that Jesus would transform the hearts of the Yazidi people, bringing freedom and hope through His name. Pray for peace and protection over those who regularly face violent opposition for their faith. Pray that they might be liberated from traditional and extremist beliefs/customs. Pray that God would fill them for a deep yearning for His Word and truth. < Back to PRAY - Christmas 2024 Manage Cookie Preferences
